Smt.Sohini Singha Mojumdar is a versatile Hindustani Classical Singer well versed in Kheyal, Thumri, Bhajan and Ghazal forms. ‘Sohini’- Named after a beautiful Raaga of Hindustani Classical Music, was born on 26th February 1987 in Chittaranjan to Smt.Sanghita Mojumdar and Shri.Deba Prasad Mojumdar. She is born into a family of strong Musical tradition.

She started her elementary training in music from her maternal grandfather Late Rabindranath Chattaraj at a very tender age of four years. She started learning classical music from her mother Smt Sanghita Mojumdar. Later on she started taking music lessons at the age of 10 years from Pt. Amiya Ranjan Bandyopadhyay, a stalwart of Vishnupur Gharana.

She has learnt Semi Classical vocal music from Vidushi Suranjana Bose and presently she is taking advanced lessons from Smt Dalia Rahut, a senior disciple of Late Girija Devi. She has been mentored and guided by Pandit Tushar Dutta in her endeavours.

ACADEMIC BACKGROUND:-

Sohini has graduated from Calcutta University with honours in English and holds an MBA in Human Resource Management from Techno India under West Bengal University of Technology. Presently she is pursuing M.A in Vocal Music from Rabindra Bharati University.

• First position in Radio Music Competition(Bhajan) , 2007.
• First position in Kheyal in ‘Rajya Sangeet Academy’ , Kolkata.
• Winner of Talent search contest organized by Doverlane Music Academy in Thumri, 2008.
• Winner of Talent search contest organized by Doverlane Music Academy in Kheyal, 2008.
• Empanelled artist of Indian Council of Cultural Research (ICCR), 2009 (Kheyal)
• ‘A’ grade Artist in All India Radio.
• Winner of Pratima Chandra Memorial Award organized by Doverlane Music Academy, 2016.
• Acquired ‘Sangeet Prabhakar’ title from Prayag Sangeet Samiti, Allahabad (U.P).
• Winner of ‘Khazana’ Artist Aloud Ghazal talent hunt, 2019.

PERFORMANCES:-

Sohini has performed in different parts of West Bengal and other places of India like Mumbai, Baroda, Varanasi, Bhopal, Jaipur, Udaipur,Chennai,Bilaspur, Patna etc. Notable among them are ‘Subah Banaras’,‘Bihar Bihan’ and ICCR programmes, ‘Khazana’ annual programme. She has mesmerized audiences from different parts of India by her rendition of Classical, Semi Classical and Light Music. Her performances has lauded appreciation from stalwarts of Hindustani Classical Music.

She is happily married to Shri.Nilanjan Singha and has been blessed with a daughter Kum.Nistha Singha.
