Quote of the Month
Whoever puts his feet on Shirdi soil, his sufferings would come to an end.
November 2018 Vol 10 / Issue 11

Dear Sai Bandhus,

The month of kaartheeka (second half of sharad rutu) is celebrated by lighting lamps daily for a month in the evening (called as “Daamodara Deepam” in some parts of our country). The lamps are lit exactly in the time of dusk (i.e. saayam sandhyaa kaaala). The time of dusk is a median time between the evening and the night. The dusk exactly corresponds to the evening of our lives. With the nightfall there is darkness everywhere (i.e. Ajnaana). Similarly a jeevi, as his end approaches, if he has not fortified his saadhana in the early years (here we could compare with the morning, afternoon and the early evening of the day) of his life, he is for sure to get deluded by ignorance in his old age and after his death would again take a birth and this cycle would continue on and one till he has realized the Supreme One.

Lighting a lamp refers to lighting the flame of Jnaana in our hearts. Hence, lighting lamps in the dusk refers that at least the jeevi would pursue for/ make an attempt to understand the existence of the Supreme One, so that the glowing lamp (viz; aatma saakshaatkaara) would illume all the quarters in the night (i.e. the night becoming illumined refers to the disappearance of ignorance and the realization of the Self).

Let us all lights the lamps of Sevatatparataa, bhakti, vaatsalya, dayaa, karunaa and offer all as a sign of sarvasya sharanaagati (complete surrender) at the lotus feet our beloved Lord Sai Maharaj.

Sri Sai Sahasranama Bhashya

206) OM SRI SAI EKAAKSHARA PARAJNAANINE NAMAH

[Meaning: - Salutations to Lord Sai who is knower and veritably the Supreme Knowledge even beyond the Omkara]

The word “Ekaakshara” could be split into two words- “Eka” (single) and “Akshara” (the imperishable). The word “Parajnaana” refers to the “Supreme Knowledge”. So, summing up “Ekaakshara Prajnaani” refers to the one who knows (i.e. realized) the Supreme Knowledge of the “Single Imperishable One” (viz: Brahman). Here the Parajnaana though in words has been referred to the Supreme knowledge, in reality is inexplicable (avarnaneeyam).

As explained in our Upanishads, it is only by continuous sharavana (hearing with rapt attention), manana (continuous contemplation of what is heard) and nidhidhyasana (rigorous practice of what is heard and contemplated on), one would understand the indepth meaning (goodhaartha) in our scriptures (about the Parajnaana) and realize the essence of the same (Brahmaniroopanasya anubhooti). If we don’t realize, then we are nowhere closeby even to the thoughts of Brahman.
