To God be the praise. I am only the slave of God.
February 2018 Vol 10 / Issue 2

Dear Sai Bandhus,

It is well known in our scriptures that Lord Siva likes abhisheka ( sacred bath) …. “Abhisheka Priyo Harah”. Now, does this mean that to please Lord Gourivallabha, if we offer a potful of water or milk, he will be pleased? Let us reflect a bit more on the word “Abhisheka”. It is derived from the word “Sinchana”  (i.e. to wet or sprinkle) and when prefixed with “Abhi”, it assumes a meaning of “ continuous bathing or wetting”. Now, if we think that we trying to bath Lord Siva, please imagine that is it to the one who is always having the lokapaavani Ganga in his matted locks ! Then, for the one who is always cooled or soothened by the waters of Maa Ganga, where is the requirement for a potful of water for abhisheka!

So, now comes the scriptural description of the word Abhisheka which says that the word doesn’t tantamount to one pouring water on a diety but with the complete thought that he is bathing or wetting the deity continuously in the mind (here symbolically represented as pouring water or milk over the idol or Linga) with a firm resolve of continuous offering of one’s passing thoughts, offering the deeds done with no attachment to the fruits of the same, offering services to all with an understanding of the omnipresence of the Lord in everything, everyone and everywhere. Then alone will this offering to Lord Umaapati will be the true abhisheka and the Lord in turn too longs for one such Abhisheka pooja only.

This reminds us of Lord Sai Baba saying that any amount of worship devoid of samarpana and premabhaava is futile. Only a heart with true yearning for the Lord’s grace alone will be bless with the Shashwata Padam.

May the Lord of the Universe Sai Shankara bless us all.

Sri Sai Sahasranama Bhashya

198) OM SRI SAI RUJAVE NAMAH

[Meaning:- Salutations to Lord Sai Baba who is an embodiment of reality]

“The Supreme One alone is real”, thus proclaim our brahmasutras [Brahma Satyam Jaganmithyaa]. All the creation is nothing but a projection of his Maya. HE alone existed prior to the creation, is still existing and will continue to exist even after the dissolution of this creation. HE is the Shashwata (permanent), Sthira (unmovable), Aja (unborn) and Ananta (one without and end).

So, the Brahman who alone is the reality (nay the word reality here is mentioned with the spirit of understanding the actual essence and is certainly not a yardstick attempting to measure the “immeasurable) is devoid of time, space and place and yet can amorously get associated with these triumvirate thereby assuming a form (i.e. becoming an embodiment of Jnaana here), discharging its duties in this world without any attachment to the fruits of the deeds, lead the path of Shubhra maarga by treading the same assiduously and finally be balanced against all the odds and even in life. Though Parabrahman dons such a form, internally HE is still aware that HE is the same “Sacchidaananda Siva”.

Lord Sai, who externally appeared as a mendicant internally is that “Paramaatma” himself.

Salutations to such an unborn Parabrahma Saguneekruta Moorti- Sri Sainath Maharaj.
