Rare Brain Stone Removal Surgery At Shri Sai Baba Hospital - Courtesy: Shri Sai Baba Sansthan Trust (Shirdi) Press Release Dated 30th January 2023

Neuro Surgeon Dr.Mukund Choudhary and his Neuro Surgery Team have successfully performed a rare brain surgery and removed a Stone which was present deep inside the brain since last five months. Sansthan's Acting Chief Executive Officer Shri.Rahul Jadhav has congratulated entire Neuro Surgery Team of Shri Sai Baba Hospital for this rare and successful surgery.

Thousands of patients from all corners of the State and from outside the State are admitted for various treatments at Shri Sai Baba Hospital and Shri Sainath Hospital run under the auspices of Shri Sai Baba Sansthan. An average of 60 to 70 brain and spine surgeries are performed every month in the Neurosurgery department of the hospital. Amongst them, a patient of Parbhani, Shri.Sachin Marke, aged 37 years came to Shri Sai Baba Hospital for examination by Neurosurgeon Dr.Mukund Choudhary after suffering a head injury five months ago. About five months ago (i.e., in August 2022) he fell off a bike and got a minor head injury. The wound, which seemed minor at first, did not heal though. Medicines were given, plasters was put and CT Scan was also performed. However, the actual problem cold not be diagnosed. As the bleeding from the wound did not stop, a CT scan was done in December and medication was started. However, the head injury was not subside.

Finally after hearing the name of Shri Sai Baba Hospital of Shirdi and Dr. Mukund Chaudhary, the patient came to Shirdi for treatment after five months. After fully understanding the patient's case, Dr.Mukund Chaudhary again advised a CT scan. After seeing the CT scan, however, the doctor was puzzled. Although at first sight it seemed that he got a tumor in the brain after breaking the bone of the skull, why did this tumor occur after five months of treatment? This question was not resolved. Dr.Chaudhary suspected that it was not a bone tumor but something else. When discussed with radiologist Dr.Shrikant Nagre, he expressed the possibility that it is some other substance and not tumor. After proper diagnosis, the patient was prepared for Surgery after discussing with the Patient and his relatives. On 17th January 2023, neuro surgeon Dr.Chowdhury and Senior Anesthesiologist Dr.Santosh Survase and the neuro surgery team started this operation with a lot of excitement. But the doctor was confused by what he saw during the Surgery. A large stone had broken the Skull Bone and lodged deep inside the Brain. Dr.Choudhary succeeded in removing the stone from the Brain by performing Surgery on the surrounding area without affecting the other areas of the Brain. The patient was treated for 10 to 12 days after the Surgery and the patient did not have any problem. Also the bleeding from the wound completely stopped. Dr.Mukund Choudhary said that this patient was alive with stone in the Brain for five months without being diagnosed and remained healthy after surgery, which is a rare case in the World of Medicine.

Shri Sai Baba Sansthan Acting Chief Executive Officer Shri.Rahul Jadhav, Medical Director of Shri Sai Baba Hospital Lt.Col.Dr.Shailesh Oak and Deputy Medical Director Dr.Pritam Wadgave have congratulated the entire Neuro Surgery Team for successfully performing a rare and difficult surgery.
